I develop creative marketing and engineering strategies using new technologies. In 2008, while in high school, I developed an idea called Brotsky Designs. Brotsky Designs was seeded with an initial investment of $140 to buy a shared hosting plan to build my first website, BrandonBrotsky.com. Fortunately, a few weeks later I made back that $140 on my first project. That one project became three, those three became ten, and those ten became the start of a new business that was able to turn into a team of creative individuals with hundreds of projects and new opportunities daily. Brotsky Designs led to the creation of Brotsky, LLC and for me to become part of other technology based businesses.
Understanding how things work and developing new applications using code, design, and strategy under a specified budget is not only part of my career but is a hobby of mine. For me, engineering is more than just building a machine. It is the process of understanding the use case for the machine, planning out the development, and making that machine easy to use. A majority of my engineering is implemented in the form of programming. It typically begins with a planning phase where I architect the design of software and carefully choose the right tools for jobs whether that be the LAMP stack for a web application, PhoneGap for a cross platform mobile application, Java for Android, or Object C for iOS. I believe the best outcome comes from using the best tool for the job instead of the tool the developer knows the best or what is easier to use on the short term.
Being creative goes beyond Photoshop and Illustrator. Putting myself in the shoes of the target demographics while seeing a higher level approach to achieve a goal has been particularly helpful in my career. I started using Photoshop and Illustrator in high school where I found myself taking photographs with the sole purpose of editing them with Photoshop when I got home to my computer. As my skills developed, I found I was able to be more creative with my designs when I learned how to program and was able to apply my design ideas to websites. Combining my love of graphic design with my love of technology allowed me to create detailed content management systems to make designs beautiful from the inside out. It brings me great satisfaction to design a website by creating the user interface and user experience in from sketches on a whiteboard, designs in photoshop, frontend development with HTML, CSS, and JS and then follow through with backend development with PHP and MySQL.
Since I was a young man, I have always gone down the path of owning a business. I find true enjoyment promoting creative ideas and letting them take their course. The word “success” has never quite been defined for me. Being entrepreneurial has made success just out of arm's reach and as soon as I have achieved a goal, I see another that I haven’t come close to reaching. I strive to be better than the best, even if the best is myself.
Many of my philosophies, professional and personal have come from my grandfather. My grandfather, Aaron “Al” Brotsky, founded Al & Ed’s Autosound and built up the business to 50+ stores in Southern California. While the business is no longer part of my family, that business knowledge has been passed down to me and has been invaluable. A few of the things he taught me that I live by are the following:
The value of fun is under appreciated in the professional world and I believe that if the rest of the world had as much fun at their job as I do not only would the world be a happier place but many of the world’s problems would find a way to fix themselves. A great way to develop a skill is simply to enjoy what you are doing. Over my career, improving skills has been much easier for me simply because I have enjoyed learning and actively practicing.
In the future, I strive to be part of something that incorporates my love for business, design, and engineering. I sincerely love what I do and I want to be part of team that could share my passion.
